Faculty and Graduate Students
Undergraduate Students
- Dan X reports: UH Linguistics is experiencing a boom in undergraduate interest.
This semester we have nearly twice as many undergrads that have declared Linguistics as their major than
we have ever had.
- At the last two regular Linguistic Society of Hawai`i
meetings we have discussed various strategies for incorporating these undergrads into the organization.
A list of 19 proposed programs and activities has been generated and is currently being reviewed by all
members to determine what we should emphasize in coming semesters. They run the gamut from simple
undergrad get-togethers to mentorship programs to even the establishment of a separate undergraduate
organization apart from the LSH. Hopefully we will
be able to select the most workable items at our next meeting.
Send corrections, additions, and news items for future issues to aschafer
at hawaii dot edu. We’d especially enjoy hearing news from alumni.
