What I admire most of all about Stan was his dedication and passion for scholarly activities, his unparalleled interest in his students, (particularly [those who wrote] Ph.D. [dissertations with him], spending time and energy in making lengthy comments on term papers as well as dissertations, really going out of his way to help, perhaps even without thinking of the cost (this latter trait, I'm sure I picked up from him in dealing with students of my own here in Calgary), and his keen sense of humour. He always enjoyed a good joke, bursting in his usually contagious laughter, and his love for words often found expression in funny repartees. No doubt all of his friends truly miss him!
