I’m sure everybody remembers
Stan’s kindness, his humour, his endless supply of hilarious jokes, his gift
for languages and delight in learning them (incidentally he was also incredibly
good at imitating the quacking of ducks), and his enthusiasm for mixing beer,
peanuts, jokes, and linguistics.
Concerning Sept. 13, could you just
say something like ‘Laurent Sagart asks me to say that he regrets he cannot
attend this ceremony, and that he is joining us in spirit. He misses Stanley, a
beloved friend whom he admired as a scholar, and respected as a kind and
truth-loving man.’
