In
memory of Stanley Starosta
| Stan's
passion for lexicase, his sense of humor, and effective mentoring sustained me
throughout my long secondary 'career' as an untraditional graduate student. I
saw Stan in June just before I left for California. He was looking forward to
his summer plans, teaching in Taiwan and cruising in Scandinavia. We promised to
get together after our return from summer activities to do some work on
dependency grammar. Little did I expect to learn the sad news before the summer
ended. I am glad that Stan was able to see his family, especially his
granddaughter before his passing. I will cherish the memory of my mentor and
friend, Stan, in his flip-flops in Hawaii and in his ties and suits in Japan,
Thailand, and in Europe.
