(During these hours, a monitor is present or advanced users can check out the key from
the Linguistics or SLS Department offices between 9:00 am and 4:15 pm.)
*All users must follow the correct security procedures.
What can I do in the General Lab?
- Make recordings in a sound-attenuated booth
- Acoustically analyze sound files
- Work with language corpora
- Design and conduct experiments with the help of software in the lab
- Test speakers' auditory perceptions
- Test speakers' language processing-e.g. reaction times

- Microsoft Office Pro (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
- PCquirer - acoustic recording and analysis
- PitchWorks - prosodic and acoustic analysis
- SoundEdit - acoustic analysis (Mac platform only)
- PRAAT - speech analysis, phonological analysis, speech synthesis, machine learning, among others
- PsyScope - experiment design and operation (Mac only)
- E-Prime - experiment design and operation (PC only)
- Language corpora
- CLAN - language analysis software & corpora
- Tlearn - program for connectionist modeling
- iMovie - video editing
- SIL IPA 93 Fonts
- SPSS - statistics
- StatView - statistics
- Canvas - graphics
- DeltaGraph - creating graphs
A small reference library
Books and journals may be checked out for one week and manuals may be checked out overnight
when a Lab staff is present. If you need to renew books, please send e-mail to
lae-ga(at)lists(dot)hawaii(dot)edu

LAE General Lab GA Schedule
Please note that this schedule is subject to change.
Lab may be closed for classes or meetings. Users are regularly notified
by e-mail of special lab closures.
GAs and student assistants are available for consultation in the lab.
The schedule below shows the GA's schedule and labs closure time.
You can also check out the key from the Linguistics (Moore 569) and SLS
Department (Moore 570) offices. Please understand that G.A.s monitoring the
LAE Labs are also students taking classes. When there is no overlap between
two G.A.s’ shifts, the monitor can be late from classes, meetings, and other
duties. Please plan ahead. Mahalo!
